If you were bored Aug. 17 and looking for something to do in Modesto, Bowlfest 1 should have been your ticket for a good time. After all, the event at Yosemite Lanes featured live music, a chicken wing eating contest and other activities: It had something for everyone, and should have been packed.
Unfortunately, however, Bowlfest rolled a gutter ball with a crowd that dwindled throughout the day.
Only about 30 people were around to check out the lineup of mostly classic rock bands. The small crowd, however, didn't reduce the bands' enthusiasm for the show, and their energy seemed to carry over to the fans.
The biggest event of the day turned out to be the chicken wing eating contest, which was superbly entertaining.
Of course, many inaugural events struggle. Hopefully Bowlfest 2 will be better - and much bigger.
