About Carlos McCoy Mcfield
Jazz Saxophonist also doubles on flute and clarinet. Carlos was born in Nicaragua and moved to the US at the age of eight. At a young age (13) his passion for art was transferred to music when began experimenting with the flute and guitar. He took up saxophone at the age of 16 and has been playing since. Experience was gained touring Hawaii and the East Coast as part of the Encore show choir combo in high school and performing at venues such as B.B. Kings House of Blues in Hollywood and the Hard Rock Cafe in San Francisco as a sideman. Carlos is a devoted student of jazz and has studied with Bob Secor, Brian Kendrick, Dave Eshelman, Dann Zinn, Harry Skoler, Mike Mcmullin, Dann Higgins, Dale Wolford and others and has attended the Berklee school of music in Boston, where he was awarded a scholarship by the Berklee World Scholarship Tour on alto sax (2004). He has also toured Italy, France, and Switzerland performing at venues such as the Montreux, Vienne, and Umbria festivals and performed at Yoshi's with the award winning CSUH Jazz Ensemble(2005-2007). As part of the collegiate experience he has performed with many jazz greats and had the opportunity to be featured with the Mike Vax big band and perform with the Rock and Roll hall of fame band The Dells. He recently was selected to perform with the Disney All-American College Band as lead alto (2006). During his participation with the CSUEB Jazz Ensemble he received the Outstanding College Saxophonist award at the Reno Jazz Festival (2007). As a clarinetist he performs with the Ohlone wind orchestra, one of the nation's premiere wind ensembles. He is also member or the Verne Brooks latin orchestra, holding the lead tenor chair. Carlos contributes to the community performing in the San Francisco Bay area and San Joaquin Valley.
