About CHEPO AKA THA 93
Chepo, aka tha 93, is one of the hottest and most established emcees out of the 209. He's toured the country with Sweet Addiction and performed for 97.7/98.3 KWIN, 95.1 KHOP, B93.1, Mega 100, Radio Disney, Summer Splash (Stockton), X-Fest (Modesto), Sweetstock (Nebraska), Winter Jam (Stockton), Vanilla Coke New Flava Tour (Berkeley), Totalmente Tour (Long Beach) and Radio Disney Live (Rhode Island). He’s also shared the stage with E-40, Paul Wall, Digital Underground, T-Pain, Tone Loc, Ray J, All-4-One, Triple Gold Records and Jiggy. Chepo also has done radio drops for Wild 94.9's Doghouse, and even though most wouldn’t consider him a battle emcee, he cracked the finals for Roc-a-Fella's "Roc the Mic.” He holds true to the belief that an emcee should be able to spit over any beat, with a style that’s a versatile combination of witty sarcasm and unmatched energy. It’s a true extension of his personality. "I set out to be extremely versatile. I'd only listen to emcees that did the same," Chepo says. "I feel like I can match any mood and take over a song the same way Barry Bonds, Joe Montana or Michael Jordan can take over a game.” A series of coincidences led Chepo to become an emcee. His mother ran a theatre company and owned recording equipment. A friend, meanwhile, had written rhymes and was looking for a place to record. Chepo eventually took the mic, and by 2000 he had several singles and was opening for Sweet Addiction on their tour. With high ambitions and a savvy business mind, Chepo then set out to establish himself as a headliner. In 2003 he helped form the KrackaBox crew and the label KrackaBox Records. A year later Chepo recorded and co-produced his solo debut, “Outtanowhere,” which sold more than 2,000 copies. His sophomore effort, “Thinkin’ Outside tha Box: The Mixtape,” was released as a free downloadable album on Myspace.com in 2006. “Thinkin’ Outside tha Box” received great reviews and led to feature appearances on ModestoFamous.com and Friday Night Hype with Al Greenz on 97.7/98.3 KWIN. The album also started a new phase in Chepo’s career, as it aligned him with llocal heavyweights Jiggy and Takeover Music. The subsequent release of “The Takeover Mixtape Vol. 1” featuring Jiggy, Chepo & DJ Wil, was met with critical acclaim, earning an unprecedented 10 out of 10 mics in the Modesto View. In addition to emceeing, Chepo has penned many R & B tracks for fellow artists, including, "You Don't Wanna" and "Sweet Addiction" for MarE's former group Sweet Addiction and "How Many" for Matt Vaughan. He also co-wrote "Saw You (With Her)" for MarE.
