REVIEW: Drew Grow

Drew Grow, one of Portland, Oregon's hidden talents, played an epic show April 24 at the Blackwater Café in Stockton. Susurrus Rex (Stockton) and Two Sheds (Sacramento) opened the evening and set the mood for the lively, indie-loving crowd.
Grow had energetic, strong beats and a powerful voice. This act was surprisingly refreshing in an ever-evolving indie scene. Grow’s performance was not only solid but eye catching.
Although a member of his band was missing, he still had the stage presence of a symphony with only two members. The night was filled with beautifully harmonized vocals and powerful melodies.
Grow’s songs consisted of tongue-in-cheek lyrics and forceful guitar riffs. One song stuck out in particular, “Spider”, which was an alluring composition that was not only dark but also hopeful.
I was blown away by the trance the audience seemed to fall into as the show continued. No one could pull away from this interesting mix of indie/garage rock.
All in all, Stockton was privileged to witness a truly amazing show last night.
