This press release was in my email when I got back from lunch - does it remind anyone else of Dunder Mifflin's social networking attempts on "The Office"?
"Clear Channel and Caltrans Offer Young Adults Chance to be a Filmmaker
Caltrans asks youths to go “Slow Mo” and help save lives
Sacramento, Calif.—On May 21, Caltrans will launch its first Online Entertainment Community, Slow Mo Films at www.SlowMoFilms.com for young adult drivers throughout California. Caltrans hopes this innovative new Web site will encourage teens to flex their creative muscles and post videos YouTube-style, while promoting safe driving messages to their peers as part of Caltrans’ Slow for the Cone Zone campaign.
Slow Mo Films is similar to an online social networking community like MySpace or Facebook, but is specifically focused on entertaining teens and young adults with cool and creative amateur designed videos. All part of the fun, and as part of its launch, Slow Mo Films will hold a video contest, sponsored by Clear Channel Media, in which young adults are asked to create and post a 15-second slow motion film. Caltrans is not a sponsor of the contest, nor are any state funds involved.
“We really want teens and young adults to visit our Online Entertainment Community and enter the contest because it’s a chance for them to help make our Slow for the Cone Zone messaging and campaign a little bit more fun and interactive. Posting videos and visiting www.SlowMoFilms.com. allows young drivers to have a say in what’s marketed to them, and it’s a great way to showcase their creative abilities while promoting important safety messages to their peers,” said Mark DeSio, Caltrans Communications Director."
