The Underground closes
Posted June 13 at 06:14 AM
The Modesto Underground, a church-based venue that hosted some of the area's biggest hardcore and screamo shows, has shut its doors, according to the venue's MySpace blog.
No reason is given. Instead, the blog, posted this week, contains a simple message to the Underground's fans:
"We Are No Longer Doing Shows Here. Support The Rock and Other Local Venues! Thanks to everyone who made The Underground Great!"
The Underground's closing is a significant loss for local hardcore fans. Because it held up to 2,000 fans, the venue could attract bigger bands that otherwise might only play the Boardwalk in Orangevale.
You can still catch hardcore and metal regularly at The Rock in Modesto, where the Temptation of Saint Anthony, Left in the Fire and others will play June 20. The 180 in Lodi and Cal First in Stockton also host -core shows. - Ian Hill / 209Vibe editor.
