Greyspace

Posted June 14 at 08:48 AM

It's past time to recognize Greyspace as one of Stockton's best and most exciting bands. They're talented musicians who put on a funky, fun, high-energy show that's unique in Stockton.

Kenny Osborne plays bass like its lead guitar, combining with drummer Adam Odello to give the band a great rhythm-first vibe. Guitarist Patrick Meneses is a perfect fit for the group, as he can both fit in with the rhythm and shine on lead.

Matt Lowe, meanwhile, is a phenomenal MC in the old-school definition of the term. He's the Master of Ceremonies, interacting with the crowd and getting them excited for his aggressive and spot-on delivery.

Unfortunately, Greyspace has too often been put in the shadow of Stockton's other live band hip-hop act - The Icarus Jones Collective. And I'm mostly responsible for that. The Collective has headlined some of the shows Greyspace has played locally, and as a result I've tended to write more about the former at the expense of the latter.

But Greyspace deserves more attention, and fans are beginning to give it to them. Some told me this week they were looking forward to seeing Greyspace as much as The Collective at the June 13 show.

You can check out the band next on June 28 when it plays the Bowl Jam at Pacific Avenue Bowl. Plan on being there. - Ian Hill / 209Vibe editor
