Event Details

Ten of the area’s top bands will compete for a $1,000 prize – and more – at the 209Vibe / OneEightyMusic Battle of the Bands! And as part of the event, 209Vibe.com is hosting an online battle where YOU pick the winner! Check out each band on the 209Vibe music player below. Then vote for your favorite by clicking the band’s photo at right. Come back to 209Vibe.com as often as you want over the next few weeks to vote. The vote totals update automatically, so you’ll always know how your favorite band is doing. The winner of the online battle will be announced at the July 19 event and receive studio time in Stockton’s Mad Lab Productions studios, where they will work with top producer and Smash Mouth keyboardist Mike Klooster. 209Vibe.com will have constant updates on who’s leading the voting, so keep coming back for the latest information! Battle ends at noon July 17. The July 19 battle also will feature a special performance by 2007 winner Athens!

I have been voting since day one and have been continueing to do so. My hats off to ihill of 209Vibe. You guys at 209Vibe had to have known this was going to happen but to this extent you didn't expect the negative comments. To all of you bands when you post negative comments you will put people on the defensive. All of you need to grow up and support each other. I took the time to listen to each and everyone of your music and have attended your concerts. You are all quite good and have your own unique style. If you have a passion for music as I know you do. Then let it go. If you wanted to be at the top, then you all should of went out and had your friends, family, friends from school, & where ever you work vote for you guys. Nobody in any of these bands have cheated. And as for Spence. It took alot of gutts to comment on what you said recently. You are a big man for that. All of you guys in all the bands have a God given talent. Use it!! And be supportive of the other bands. I may be ageing my self, but I came from a generation of great musical bands that played and are still playing. So best of luck to all of you. And the person at 209Vibe you guys don't go back on your written word of topband that the public voted for on line. So rock on guys.

I'm on my way back from vacation - sitting in the Charlotte airport, actually - and just got caught up on this comment thread. Thought I'd re-post my original comment (below) from July 1 just to re-state 209Vibe's intentions. While it's unfortunate that some have taken this discussion to the lowest common denominator, it's great to see NorCal music inspiring so much passion among bands and fans. One final clarification regarding the below comment - I'd argue that you can cheat by violating the spirit of a contest. - Ian Hill / 209Vibe editor. Original comment: Before this battle launched, we at 209Vibe.com discussed whether or not we should limit voting. We're not dumb - we obviously knew that not limiting voting would leave it open to abuse. In the end, however, we decided against setting limits. The purpose of this online battle is to draw attention to the talented local music scene and a great event - OneEightyMusic's annual Battle of the Bands. We wanted to do everything we could to make it simple for users to discover, and take part in, both the battle and the scene. It should be as easy as possible for the casual fan to check out local music. If you're taking advantage of that intent by cheating and stacking votes, well, you're pretty lame.

This is Spencer... the only guy from Eyes Like Wolves that will criticize his own band, and give praise to the others. Everyone in my band hates the scene of the 209... sorry, but thats how it goes. We would conform and create music like the rest, but God gave some of us influences such as Blink 182 and Set Your Goals. I'd really appreciate if you stop calling my band gay, and if you would please just make this a fair, clean fight. Im sorry that DarthBrutis took our constructive critisism offensively, then has been bashing us ever since. Im sorry that we chose to take a different path musically and expect every one of the bands preforming at this show to instantly like us. Its not your style, or even a threat to this competition. Its obvious that we wont win, in fact, half of the band is going to search for people that are more their taste, after this show. Or at least I am... All i ask is that you Respect everyones band, no matter how much you dont like them... and just let We Set Fire win the online portion... its a lost cause... and the one who designed this whole online thing knew that that would be inevitable. youre probably right they probably are really horny, but 1:theres that pic of them grabbing eachothers packages 2: theyre smiling as if pleasured and 3: theyre both returning the favor. thats where that came from. but yeh id be really horny and sex obsessed too if i didnt get any action. all jokes aside though, i dont see why people are getting so but hurt if they claim the online battle to be a joke, and if theyre so amazingly different then yes they should win. not to hate but thats just how i see it.

okay. well first off fuck you "mikenoodz." secondly, id like to say im not a big fan of eyes like wolves, but at least they are not like every band in the battle. 9 out of the 10 bands are screamo bitch bands, and i disagree with that. our 209 is infected with screaming, gayass music. so im goin for elw, because to me, they have the biggest balls for trying something new, besides the common scenester music.

Not to mention the fact that there is no actual way to cheat in this competition anyways. From what I've seen so far, battle's like these pit everyone at each other's throats, even people with no affiliation with the contest or the bands are causing a witch hunt. I agree with Matty completely. And as for the 209 claws up guy, he is an example of what is wrong with today's music scene. This competition is not about bringing down the winning bands like we set fire just because their favorite band isn't winning. In fact, that is completely unprofessional. Like i said earlier, there is no way to cheat when 209 vibe encouraged everyone to come back to the page as much as you want to vote. The Real battle is July 19th, leave it all on the stage.

this is Matty from WGWF and ill say this. in the beginning of this contest, i promoted it like crazy. bulletin post after bulletin post. and we had many kids telling us that they were voting, but not just voting, spamming. the only guy being logical here is DarthBrutis. my band has an awsome fan base in the 209, and so does TGF. im not going to lie, i have voted for myself quite a few times. but that doesnt mean the other bands that have less votes havent. they way i see it is, my band is gettng new recordings up next week, so why do i need to win this 8hr recording time? i dont need it, neither does TGF. let WSF have it. hope to see you all at the battle of the bands in lodi. may the best band win. -Matty

well im sure theyre voting for themselves but thats not cheating at all if its not prohibbited, but saying thats they only way any of those bands got their votes is kinda a hasty conclusion. do you really think just 5 people from their bands really got them all those votes? im sure youre smarter than that. ive seriously seen flyers for this event posted all over shopping centers with the url for this site on it. how many friends do you think each member from each band has? and how many times do you think each friend would vote? you have to think exponentially instead of being so linear. and actually everyones numbers are still going up, the only number youre looking at is the one in the highest thousand, whick of course looks slower.

the way i see it is, yeah sure it's not technically cheating because 209vibe left the voting open, only to increase their site traffic. but when the only way you can get votes is by voting for yourself, it's kinda sad. the first couple of days TGF and WGWF had huge amounts of votes, by voting for themselves. then WSF started voting for themselves, and took a huge lead. and since then the numbers have stayed the same, on the top vote getters. as for the bottom they're still getting votes. i'm pretty sure that every band on here can careless if they win it, besides the bands that voted for themselves. so let's just wait for the actual show to decide which band deserves it. so WSF have fun with your 8 hrs. of wanting to fly.

When A Band wants to be taken seriously they have to be legit about everything they do. The online cheating doesn't make them look better than they are, it only highlights there lack of professionalism and makes people hold them to a higher expectation when checking them out. And when they see that the band isnt as good and liked as they want to appear they are, then the band looks Pathetic.
