Chitiva’s Salsa and Sports offers some of Stockton’s liveliest entertainment and nightlife along with one of the best views in the city. Its patio is across the Deepwater Channel from the Stockton Ballpark, which gives patrons a picturesque spot to watch the fireworks that follow some Stockton Ports games. But the view isn’t the top attraction at Chitiva’s. The bar and restaurant is packed on late weekend nights with couples of all ages dancing and swaying to the salsa beats provided by DJs and live bands. It’s an energetic scene that draws you in and radiates fun. Chitiva’s welcomes novices as well as experienced dancers and offers free lessons at the beginning of the evening. You can often have a great time just by getting a drink and watching the dance floor action. The crowd is typically mature and friendly. In addition to salsa, Chitiva’s hosts weekly jazz jam sessions as well as occasional Zydeco music and dancing. On the third Friday of each month it also features one of the area’s few regularly-held comedy shows. Hosted by Stockton’s Insane Wayne and Te, the events can include nationally-touring comedians as well as R&B singers and local residents trying stand-up for the first time.
